Saturday arrived with my family obviously feeling unusually tired. I was awoken by the dogs at the back that howl like demented creatures at 8.00 every morning courtesy of the Thai guy at the back of the house who seems to be breeding them – not with them I hasten to add – least I don’t think so, rather breeding them for security purposes maybe or to make a little extra pocket money in selling the offspring. Anyway I was immersed in getting things formatted better so you my readers can skip through my ramblings without straining your eyes too much. Well it got near to noon before I saw anyone. I was feeling a little neurotic by that time but all seemed normal after the sand man was send packing and bright eyes emerged.
It seems the extended sleep has re-energised everyone, whilst I am feeling rather lacklustre following several hours wrestling with the website and the intermittent internet. Anyway, being the pleasant chap that I strive to be I suggested we go out which was met with an energetic response. Not feeling particularly energetic myself I persuaded everyone to take a trip to the local Dam
Bang Wat Reservoir Kathu Phuket
Well OK it’s actually a reservoir but it’s as near as we will get to a dam here on Phuket. Having planted the seed, all the stops were pulled out to make the afternoon a fun time. The truck was loaded with picnic stuff, scooters and sundry accoutrements to make the afternoon bearable in the heat. The best of the cargo was definately the cool box stuffed with beers and ice which made everything else rose tinted.
We sat at Bang Wat reservoir for the afternoon which is a pleasant place, the water surrounded by the vegetation covered hills and many hours passed as we imagined fascinating shapes in the rapidly maddening cloud structures building to a later to be experienced storm. The imbibing of a few local beers by myself and my wife made recognition of the cloud images a gradually more difficult task but hey it’s only for fun anyway.
After packing the kids home with the maids. mum and dad decided to have a quiet drink around the corner at a little Bar called the Bamboo Bar. This establishment is run by an English guy (Dave) and if you get there before 8.30 you can buy a local beer or even a Heineken for 50 baht.

Hey Jamie
Great to see your post – thank you very much. When I get a minute from travelling, fixing computers, meeting friends in Bangkok and holidaying over Songkran in Nakon Si Thammarat I will sort out linking back to you of course and take a look through your posts too – just been so busy! Still trying to get comments to display – ha ha – a steep learning curve!! Take care and look forward to seeing you soon. Happy Songkran
did you happen to notice if the Aquapark was getting built???
Hi Natalie
Nope no sign of that – I know it is being delayed – yet again – and I think it is probably going to be near the water ski park in Kathu rather than near the dam. Latest idea is for an opening in December 2009 but personally I would expect that date to be very optimistic!
We have a home directly behind the Aqua Park site which is close to Bang Wad Reservoir, I spoke to what appeared to be a business man on the site who said the construction will be finished in December of this year 2009 but as we all know this is open to speculation. This was in May of this year and there was plenty of construction activity going on then.
I spoke to Dave (Bamboo Bar) in May as his bar was closed, sadly Dave was very ill and ready to go in hospital for an operation.
Perhaps you could have a beer there and update me if Dave still has it.
Hi Sezlez
Sorry to report that David passed away after a short but terrible illness. Funnily enough I now own the Bamboo bar which I have completely refurbished and is now known as the Look Thai Dee Restaurant serving Thai & Western food as well as a couple of bars serving bottled & draught beer.
